Questions & Actors: Don’t Fear it, Just Go For It!

GO FOR IT! IF YOU DON’T SOMEBODY ELSE WILL

Your fear can be the answer to why you are here.

What is it that makes one person go for it and another just talk about it?

Honestly, I’ve been on both sides of the spectrum. When I go for it I do it full force, and when I talk about it, well, I tend to do that full force too! After a while, I get tired of hearing myself talk about it and I am sure all the people who have had to listen to me are just as exhausted as I am!

I just joined Toastmasters again. I have been talking about finding another speaking club for sometime, but I had no idea it has been over 10 years! I was sharing with my sister how I really wanted to get back into Toastmasters and that I was going to find a club near by. Then as if God was shouting off the mountain top, my sister said “Do it now!

I am not sure if it was her tone or the command, but I got right on the internet and found a club near me and the next day I was sitting in a chair at a meeting!

One of the members and I started chatting afterwards and he shared something that made so much sense. The majority of people live in a comfort zone and whenever a person reaches a place that is no longer comfortable, instead of taking the bull by the horns and going through it, 99 percent of people turn back around and live or I’d like to say, exist in comfort.

I remember Rev. Michael Bernard Beckwith saying, “If you want to be comfortable then buy a couch!”

Get off your couch and get uncomfortable, because that’s where you’ll find a world you’ve been missing out on.

There are many reasons why we feel uncomfortable; fear of success, fear of failure, the enigma of the unknown, the concerned about what others will think and the list goes on.

How long have you been putting off getting new headshots or a new acting coach or agent? Have you ever wanted to go to NYC to give theatre a go? How about joining an organization like Toastmasters to conquer your fear of speaking?

Your fear can be the answer to why you are here.

Fear cripples us. As a flight attendant I have met so many passengers that fear flying. Because I was one of them, I can now help these passengers. My fear has become one of my gifts.

We need to get off our couches and GO FOR IT! If we don’t, somebody else will run right by you and finish the journey they came here to live, leaving you behind in the dust… on your couch!
