Casting Networks Manchester Q&A with Jane Anderson

All_At_sea

Casting Networks Manchester are very excited to have special quest casting director Jane Anderson join us on Thursday 30 May for our first FREE members event of the year!

Jane AndersonJane Anderson casts for both emerging & established directors. Before forging out on her own in Spring 2010 she had spent 6 years working with, and being guided by, some of the most respected casting directors in the industry including, as an assistant, Di Carling, Rachel Freck, Gary Davy and as a casting associate with Kate Rhodes James.

Her casting has been informed and is inspired by her life experience; growing up in a diverse family in London, a photography degree, 3 years in production in her early 20s, as well as travelling extensively and living in Melbourne for 5 years.

Jane Anderson’s casting ranges from comedy through to gritty dramas. She continually updates her knowledge of established and rising talent in order to maintain her innovative and fresh approach to casting.

Top Five Takeaways From Our CNI Manchester Event With Producer Nicki Casey

In July we were lucky enough to have the lovely Nicki Casey for our regular series of Q&A events. Nicki is probably one of the best-known commercial producers in the North. She has run TV departments in creative agencies, exec-produced for established production companies, and ran her own very successful production company in Manchester. In her time she has produced ads for the likes of PlayStation, Greggs, Subaru, and Aldi.

We break down the top points from the event here for you.

1. Showreels

When you’re doing your showreel, keep it as short and as varied as possible, anything over two minutes and you’ve lost your audience, but that’s with anything – showreels, brand films, etc. Keep it upbeat and it’s nice to have a good soundtrack. Nicki isn’t a fan of monologues, she wants to see more – some interaction!

Top Five Takeaways From Our UK Event With Casting Director Sue Needleman and Agent Paul Spyker

Last month we were thrilled to have a double act for our regular series of Q&A events: Sue Needleman, who casts for CBBC, and top UK theatrical agent Paul Spyker. We breakdown the top points from the event here for you.

1. “It has to be as good as the real deal.” (S.N.)

If a brief calls for an American accent, then it has to be a believable American accent, not an impression, because you will be up against genuine American actors. Remember, play to your strengths and don’t apologise or come up with excuses as to why your accent is not spot on. Do you research and practice, practice, practice.

We thought we would shake things up a little in our series of Q&A events by inviting Sarah Victoria from PEM Acting to speak with us on Wednesday 24 August.

Sarah Victoria

The Perdekamp Emotional Method (PEM) was developed and designed by German director and playwright Stephan Perdekamp. PEM is an innovative acting method based on a biological process. PEM provides performers with a direct, effortless, and guidable access to authentic emotions on a purely physical basis, without recourse to personal experiences or emotional memory. Its organic and fast approach grants security, flexibilty, and reliability in the professional careers of actors, singers, dancers, and other performers, and works with an unheard-of simplicity and effectiveness in creating emotional depth and expressiveness.

“Stephan Perdekamp has created something extraordinary, a method for producing emotion using only an actor’s bio-physiology. This is the acting technique for the twenty-first century – it would have amazed even Stanislavsky!” Peter McAllister (Acting Teacher at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and certified PEM Instructor)
