Health Uncensored: There’s a new C word in town!

Health Uncensored: There’s a new C word in town!

It’s so easy to get caught up in the c-word. Oh, ya know, comparison. Even when we achieve impressively high goals, we don’t stay in that feeling of accomplishment as long as we should. It takes one measly scroll through Facebook to instill feelings of inadequacy and maybe even anger. Or is that just me? Lol. Then we wonder, “Does he/she ever feel this crappy emotion too? Maybe they’ve just got it all figured out?” Unfortunately, since we are all human, these emotions come and go. But, it’s about letting them go fast and minimizing how often they come.

I don’t know who the heck originally said this phrase, but they are spot on. “Comparison is the thief of joy.” Makes total sense, right? You book a guest star on your favorite comedy and could not be happier. That is, until you read the #blessed #actorlife post of your fellow classmate who snagged the lead in a short film. This comparison literally robs the joy from our own life and radiates negative energy out. This can be applied to all areas of life, not just entertainment. Why do we think the grass is greener when we’ve all got weeds the neighbors can’t see? Believe me, I suffer from this thinking too! The forward movement comes from focusing on our own growth, accomplishments, the small things that make us really happy and practicing gratitude. These healthy habits shift our vibe and mindset.

Feelings of jealousy and envy are negative and make you feel unhealthy. More often than not, leading to bad vices that poison the soul. We all have different ways of self-sabotage like drinking, drugs, crawling under the covers, losing our mojo, or how about a very large overflowing handful of chocolate! Even if it’s fair trade organic, in that quantity, it aint’ good for any of us. Healthy thoughts lead to healthy behavior.

Negativity shows up on our face and ages us. And to that I say, “Oh hell no!” I’ll be saying positive affirmations while putting on my eye cream tonight! As performers in front of a camera that’s high def AF, no comparison is worth premature aging, am I right!? We see people and think they make their talents look so easy or the success happened overnight, but not everything is what it appears. Or especially what it appears on social media. Everyone has their shiz and their own struggles. Learn from each other’s mistakes and grow from trial and error. In the most loving and positive way, emulate those you admire and use the comparison to your benefit.

Think about it. How does jealousy serve us?  It doesn’t. It makes us feel bad. Brings ugly emotions to the surface and other negative people into our domino effect of bummed out thinking. Jealousy and comparison may also lead to depression because you’re making up a story in your own head that’s just not true. No assumption is worth stealing your joy.

Honey, you are killing it out there! Next time you notice the c-word creeping into your life, actively stop those thoughts and list off three things you are really proud of yourself for. Yes! Anything at all. And, say them aloud so you can hear it! Acknowledging your accomplishments big and small, builds confidence within us. We move forward faster, together. Know this, there is someone out there looking at all you do and admiring those qualities about you. Remember, we all have special gifts and talents.

Let your shine radiate out and not get dulled by the damn c-word.
